Tom Aspinall has had enough of waiting for Jon Jones. After winning the interim heavyweight title in November 2023 and defending it in July 2024, Aspinall now holds the longest active interim reign in UFC history — with no sign of a unification bout on the horizon.
Appearing on the High Performance podcast, Aspinall didn’t hold back. He pointed to money — or more specifically, Jones' financial demands — as the main thing stalling the fight.
"Me, personally, I can’t do anything," Aspinall said. "I think it’s just down to money, I think, on his side. So I will fight whenever, wherever he wants. But it’s down to money, I think."
Jones is reportedly overseas filming a Russian reality show, further complicating any chance of a summer showdown. Aspinall praised Jones’ legacy but questioned how much he’s got left in the tank.
"He's got a lot of miles on the clock. Took a lot of shots to the head," Aspinall said. "When you put him in with a guy of my size, who has the credentials at this stage of his career, I think Jon’s a smart guy and he realizes that. So he wants compensating financially for it."
With no clarity on when — or if — Jones will return, Aspinall isn’t sitting still. He’s open to defending the interim belt again and says he’ll stay ready, regardless of whether the unification fight ever materializes.
