Chris Hemsworth has spent years throwing punches on movie sets. The question now is whether he will ever try landing them in an actual MMA fight.
The 43-year-old Australian actor, best known for playing Thor in Marvel's films, shared new Muay Thai training footage from Thailand on October 7, 2026. The clips show Hemsworth working punches, kicks and knees with Thai boxing trainer Jack Boonsanong while filming the Netflix action sequel Extraction 3.
On its own, another Hemsworth workout video wouldn't be particularly surprising. What makes this one interesting is that he admitted earlier this year that he has considered testing himself in a real mixed martial arts fight, despite having no professional fighting experience.
The latest footage has already attracted attention from several UFC fighters, along with the usual argument among MMA fans over how much someone can really demonstrate by hitting pads.

Hemsworth posted the session on Instagram while working on Extraction 3, where he reprises his role as Tyler Rake, the mercenary at the center of Netflix's action franchise.
Training with Boonsanong, Hemsworth works through striking combinations inside a ring, mixing straight punches and hooks with kicks and knees. The drills are recognizably Muay Thai rather than simply the choreographed punches often associated with Hollywood fight scenes.
In his Instagram caption, Hemsworth thanked his trainer and explained that they had found time to work together during filming in Thailand.

Among those impressed were UFC lightweight Michael Chandler, who responded with "Boom boom boom!!!", and former welterweight title challenger Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, who praised Hemsworth's striking and encouraged him to keep going.
Not everyone was convinced. Some viewers questioned his defensive positioning, speed and technique, while others felt the footage showed a surprisingly capable striker for someone whose main profession is acting.
There is a limit to what either side can establish from the clip. Pad work demonstrates timing, coordination and the ability to execute combinations, but it doesn't tell us how Hemsworth would respond to an opponent hitting back, changing levels for takedowns or forcing him to defend submissions.
Chris Hemsworth previously admitted he wants an MMA fight
The discussion about Hemsworth entering the cage actually began months before the latest training footage.
During a February 2026 appearance on Complex's Family Style Fortune Cookies alongside Halle Berry, Hemsworth was asked about MMA and whether he would consider competing.
His initial answer was no, but he quickly reconsidered. He acknowledged that part of him wanted the experience, explaining that he had trained and sparred extensively over the years without taking things into the territory of a serious professional contest.
Hemsworth said he would like to discover how his skills held up in that environment, although he was realistic enough to joke that he might end up flat on his back, seeing stars.
The conversation also revealed that Hemsworth isn't merely a celebrity who occasionally watches combat sports. He expressed admiration for former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and fellow Australian Alexander Volkanovski, whom he described as a friend.
That makes his interest in MMA more understandable, but it still doesn't amount to an announcement. Hemsworth has not confirmed an opponent, promotion, date or plans for a sanctioned professional fight.
Combat sports have been part of Hemsworth's training for years
The new footage shouldn't be mistaken for a sudden career change.
Hemsworth has incorporated boxing and martial arts training into his fitness routine for years, both for physically demanding film roles and as a personal interest.
His home training setup has appeared in older social media posts as well. A December 2022 post featuring Hemsworth and his son showed a space equipped for combat-sports training, with mats and punching bags in the background.

That history matters when evaluating the latest Thailand footage. Hemsworth is not beginning his striking education at 43. He has spent years around boxing drills, sparring and different martial arts disciplines, even if none of that gives him the competitive résumé of a professional MMA fighter.
His preparation for Extraction is also particularly relevant. Unlike the superhero action of Thor, the Tyler Rake films place considerable emphasis on close-range fighting, physical stunts and extended hand-to-hand combat sequences.
Muay Thai training fits naturally into that work, whether or not Hemsworth ever intends to compete.
Could Chris Hemsworth actually fight in MMA?
There is nothing inherently impossible about Hemsworth taking an amateur or exhibition fight, provided he completes the necessary preparation and meets the relevant medical and regulatory requirements.
At 43, however, entering professional MMA would mean starting a competitive career at an age when most established fighters are approaching retirement or have already finished competing.
His athleticism, size and striking experience would be useful starting points. They wouldn't eliminate the need for dedicated wrestling, grappling, defensive training and live MMA rounds against experienced opponents.
There is also an important difference between being comfortable sparring with training partners and preparing for a sanctioned fight where an opponent is genuinely trying to finish you.
For now, the strongest evidence is that Hemsworth enjoys combat sports, takes the training seriously and is curious about competing. His latest video shows those interests haven't faded, but there is still no indication that a UFC appearance or any other MMA debut is being arranged.
And given how physically demanding his film career already is, a proper fight camp would represent a much bigger commitment than finding time to hit pads between scenes in Thailand.
