Dana White: Arman Tsarukyan Must Prove Himself Again After UFC 311 Withdrawal

20 January 2025

Arman Tsarukyan’s withdrawal from UFC 311 not only cost him a shot at the lightweight title but also set him back in the division’s rankings. The highly anticipated matchup against Islam Makhachev was scrapped at the last minute due to a back injury, forcing the UFC to call in Renato Moicano as a replacement. Despite stepping up on just 24 hours' notice, Moicano fell short, with Makhachev securing a first-round submission to retain his championship belt.

While Makhachev continues his reign, UFC CEO Dana White made it clear that Tsarukyan will not be next in line for a title shot. Speaking at the post-fight press conference, White emphasized that Tsarukyan must work his way back into contention.

"He’s not getting a title shot," White stated. "He’s going to have to fight his way back."

This news is undoubtedly a blow for Tsarukyan, who was riding a four-fight winning streak, including victories over former title challengers. His impressive run had many believing he was the rightful top contender, but the setback means he will now have to take on another tough challenge before he can re-enter the championship conversation.

Despite the disappointment, fans are eager to see how Tsarukyan bounces back from this setback. With top lightweight contenders waiting in the wings, the road to redemption could lead to matchups against elite fighters, potentially even a rematch with Moicano or a new challenge against rising stars.

Stay tuned for updates as the lightweight division continues to evolve following UFC 311.
