Dustin Poirier Backs Johnny Eblen Ahead of PFL Africa Title Fight — “He’s Just Getting Started”

This Saturday is huge for American Top Team, as two of its top stars fight in high-stakes matchups across two continents. Dustin Poirier headlines UFC 318 in a trilogy bout against longtime rival Max Holloway, while undefeated middleweight champ Johnny Eblen defends his PFL title at PFL Africa against rising Dutch talent Costello van Steenis.

Both fighters have sharpened their tools at ATT in South Florida, and Poirier had nothing but praise for Eblen during fight week. “He’s going to be on top for a long time,” Poirier told PFL. “He’s young, focused, and gets better every camp. First in, last out — the guy’s a machine.”

Despite competing in different weight classes, the pair often push each other during training. And now, they’re both set to deliver statement performances just hours apart, each representing ATT on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

For Eblen, it’s another chance to cement his place atop the PFL middleweight division. Van Steenis comes in hot off a highlight-reel head kick knockout at the 2024 PFL Championships in Saudi Arabia, adding to recent wins over Fabian Edwards and João Vitor Dantas.

But Eblen hasn’t missed a beat since his dominant showing at Bellator 299, where he unified the middleweight belts. Now undefeated and thriving under the PFL banner, he looks to continue his run against one of Europe’s most dangerous strikers.

Eblen vs. Van Steenis goes down in Cape Town, while Poirier meets Holloway in a must-see main event at UFC 318 in Louisiana. Two continents. Two elite matchups. One ATT takeover.
