EFC 137 Results: Faeez Jacobs Becomes Double Champion, Jason Mackay Stays Perfect

EFC 137 ended with Faeez Jacobs holding another belt and one of the more dramatic comeback wins of his career.

The reigning EFC bantamweight champion moved up to featherweight to face Shadrack Yemba in the September 10 main event at the World Sports Betting EFC Arena in Johannesburg. Yemba made the opening minutes uncomfortable, but Jacobs survived the danger, found his rhythm and turned the fight around in Round 2 to become a two-division champion.

There was plenty happening below the title fight as well. Faeez Jacobs stops Shadrack Yemba to become EFC double champion

The main event did not begin like a coronation for Jacobs.

Yemba came forward aggressively and had success during the opening round, forcing Jacobs onto the defensive and briefly putting the established champion in genuine trouble. That was important context heading into the second because Jacobs did not simply cruise toward a second title. He had to recover and change the momentum of the fight.

Round 2 became a much more even striking battle. Jacobs began finding openings of his own, clipped Yemba during an exchange and followed the action to the ground. From there, the punches piled up until the fight was stopped at 2:00 of the second round.

The result of Faeez Jacobs vs. Shadrack Yemba gave Jacobs featherweight gold to go alongside the bantamweight championship he already held.

The win also extended Jacobs' current run to three straight victories. That continues the finishing run that began with a first-round stoppage of Philani Mbuyazi and continued when Mackay knocked out Guelor Sondi with an elbow. Moyo brought considerably more professional experience into EFC 137, but it did not make the fight last any longer.

Three professional fights are nowhere near enough to declare how high Mackay's ceiling goes, but three first-round finishes are enough to make his next EFC appearance considerably more interesting.

German Kokaev hands Josiah Obasi his first defeat

German Kokaev and Josiah Obasi supplied one of the main card's fights that went the distance.

Obasi entered undefeated, while Kokaev arrived with considerably more professional experience. After three rounds, it was Kokaev who took the decision in German Kokaev vs. Josiah Obasi.

The result gives Kokaev an important EFC win while handing Obasi the first loss of his professional career.

Zimbabwe's Lewis Mataya also made a successful EFC appearance, defeating Ayanda Zwane over three rounds.
