Jay Silva was never a protected fighter, and that is exactly why people respected him
Jay Silva, the veteran MMA fighter known as “The Spider Killer,” has died at the age of 45. His official cause of death has not been publicly revealed. Silva was not the kind of fighter whose record tells the whole story. On paper, he finished with a near-even mark. In reality, he spent nearly two decades taking hard fights in serious promotions, including the UFC, Bellator MMA, and KSW.
That matters because Silva’s career was built the old way. He fought on short notice, fought names, fought overseas, and kept showing up long after easier paths would have made more sense. He shared the cage with fighters such as Chris Leben, Hector Lombard, Kendall Grove, and Sam Alvey. That is not padding. That is a hard résumé.
KSW remembered Silva as part of its own history
Silva’s best international run came in KSW, where his trilogy with Michał Materla became a major chapter of his career. Two of those fights were for the KSW middleweight title, and the trilogy produced both fight-night drama and one of Silva’s most memorable knockout moments. For a lot of European MMA fans, that was the version of Silva they remember most clearly: dangerous, emotional, and completely willing to meet fire with fire.
The whole KSW Team would like to send condolences to the family and friends of late former KSW fighter and middleweight title challenger, Jay Silva.

He kept fighting wherever the fight game took him
Silva also appeared on the first Golden Boy MMA card, the same event built around Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz 3. That kind of placement summed him up pretty well. Any promotion, any country, any opponent. He was still competing as recently as 2025 under the FAME MMA banner in Poland, long after many fighters from his era had fully moved on.
Z ogromnym smutkiem informujemy o śmierci zawodnika FAME Jaya Silvy.
