Kyoma Akimoto beats Kleber Koike in the RIZIN 54 main event

RIZIN 54 produced exactly the kind of strange, violent midweek card that has made RIZIN such a distinctive part of the MMA calendar. Tuesday’s event at Toyota Arena Tokyo featured weight-cut drama, heavyweight tournament fights and a remarkable run of finishes before the two biggest bouts went to the judges.

Kyoma Akimoto closed the night by earning a unanimous decision over Kleber Koike in Akimoto vs. Koike. Akimoto’s movement was a major part of the story, repeatedly slipping away from Koike’s attacks and making himself difficult to trap.

Shoko Sato defeats Patchy Mix after major weight miss

Patchy Mix entered the co-main event under immediate pressure after missing the bantamweight limit by 2.85 kilograms, more than six pounds. Under the conditions imposed for the bout, Mix began with a two-point deduction and would have received a no contest rather than a victory had he won.

None of that ultimately mattered to the official result. Shoko Sato defeated the former Bellator champion by unanimous decision in Sato vs. Mix, adding another difficult result to Mix’s recent run.

RIZIN 54 explodes with six straight finishes

The first half of the event was the opposite of the decision-heavy closing stretch. None of the opening six fights reached the judges, creating a rapid succession of knockouts, TKOs and submissions.

Joe Hiramoto supplied one of the cleanest moments, stopping his opponent with punches just 1:36 into the first round. The finishing sequence quickly circulated among Japanese MMA fans.

Hiramoto vs. Shishimoto was part of a wild early run that also included Li Kai Wen knocking out Arata Mizuno in Li vs. Mizuno and Naoki Tanaka earning a doctor’s stoppage over Issa Hosokawa in Tanaka vs. Hosokawa.

The atmosphere around the card was as playful as the action was violent, with one ringside moment involving dancing drawing attention during the broadcast.

Heavyweights advance with violent stoppages

The RIZIN 2026 Heavyweight Tournament also moved forward with two finishes. King Edokpolo stopped Mikio Ueda with a knee 47 seconds into round two of Polo King vs. Ueda.

Tsuyoshi Sudario needed less time, putting away Ryo Sakai with punches and a soccer kick at 4:26 of the opening round in Sudario vs. Sakai.

Yuki Ito also capitalized on Alibek Gadzhammatov’s own weight miss, stopping him in the second round of Ito vs. Gadzhammatov. Koji Takeda submitted Kazumasa Majima with an armbar in Takeda vs. Majima, while Joji Goto finished Azizbek Temirov by rear-naked choke in Goto vs. Temirov.
