RAF 14 Press Conference Brawl: Arman Tsarukyan vs. Dillon Danis Over Khamzat Chimaev
Arman Tsarukyan and Dillon Danis turned the RAF 14 press conference into chaos on October 22, 2026, after Danis unveiled a T-shirt mocking UFC star Khamzat Chimaev. Tsarukyan immediately lunged across the stage, triggering a mass brawl involving fighters, team members and security at Fontainebleau Las Vegas.
The confrontation came just one day before Tsarukyan and Danis were scheduled to compete for the inaugural Real American Freestyle middleweight crossover championship. Chimaev, a close friend and training partner of Tsarukyan, was also attending the press conference ahead of his own RAF 14 wrestling match against former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler.
What sparked the Arman Tsarukyan vs. Dillon Danis brawl?
The press conference initially unfolded like an ordinary combat sports media event. Tsarukyan and Danis exchanged insults while RAF co-founders Chad Bronstein and Izzy Martinez sat between them.
Things changed when a reporter asked Danis about his shirt. The former Bellator fighter stood up and displayed an altered photograph of Chimaev without his beard, accompanied by the phrase "Khamzat's my bitch."
Tsarukyan immediately got out of his chair and charged toward Danis, appearing to throw a punch. Within seconds, security personnel, coaches and other members of the fighters' entourages crowded the stage. Tables and equipment were knocked around as officials struggled to separate everyone.
Footage of the confrontation does not conclusively establish whether Tsarukyan landed a punch on Danis. The brawl was eventually brought under control, but neither man returned for the customary face-off.
The timing was particularly striking. Rather than provoking his actual wrestling opponent, Danis had targeted another fighter with whom he already had a personal history.
Why did Dillon Danis target Khamzat Chimaev?
The shirt was hardly a random insult. Danis and Chimaev had already faced each other at Real American Freestyle 10 on June 13, 2026, in St. Louis.
That match lasted just 44 seconds. Chimaev secured a takedown, turned Danis onto his back and won by pinfall, producing one of the quickest high-profile victories in RAF's early history.
But the match itself was only the beginning of the controversy. Danis held onto Chimaev's leg after the stoppage, and Chimaev responded with a kick. Members of both teams rushed onto the wrestling mat, leading to another large brawl.
Four months later, Danis was still using Chimaev as ammunition in his pre-fight trash talk.
Chimaev reacted angrily to the RAF 14 incident, criticizing Danis for making provocative statements while surrounded by security. Although his image triggered the altercation, the main confrontation captured on video was between Tsarukyan and Danis.
Danis has repeatedly attracted attention through confrontational promotion as well as his grappling career. His recent controversies have included the unusual Duel Arena 1 publicity stunt involving his mother, Nikki Carpiniello, after he withdrew from a scheduled fight against Mike Perry.
What is RAF? Real American Freestyle explained
Real American Freestyle, commonly abbreviated RAF, is a professional freestyle wrestling promotion launched in August 2025. Unlike scripted professional wrestling organizations such as WWE, RAF presents genuine competitive wrestling matches with official results and championship titles.
The organization was developed by Chad Bronstein, wrestling coach Israel "Izzy" Martinez and the late Hulk Hogan, with Eric Bischoff also involved in its launch.
RAF brings together Olympic wrestlers, NCAA champions and recognizable MMA fighters, offering a platform where elite wrestlers can compete professionally and established UFC athletes can test themselves outside mixed martial arts.
Its rules differ from a standard MMA fight. Competitors wrestle over two three-minute periods, earning points through takedowns, throws and pushouts. Matches can also end through pinfalls or technical superiority. Striking and submission holds are not permitted as scoring techniques in ordinary freestyle wrestling competition.
The attraction for MMA fans is obvious: athletes known for their striking, submissions or work inside the Octagon must compete in a format that isolates their wrestling skills.
Tsarukyan has become one of RAF's most recognizable crossover competitors, facing opponents including Urijah Faber, Colby Covington and Tony Ferguson. Chimaev has also made multiple appearances, while Olympic champions and decorated collegiate wrestlers provide the promotion's competitive foundation.
RAF 14: Tsarukyan vs. Danis and Chimaev vs. Lawler
Despite the press conference confrontation, Tsarukyan vs. Danis remained officially scheduled to headline RAF 14 on Friday, October 23, at Fontainebleau Las Vegas.
The match is for the middleweight crossover championship, with Tsarukyan bringing his elite MMA wrestling against Danis, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt better known for submission grappling.
The co-main event features Khamzat Chimaev against Robbie Lawler in another crossover wrestling match. The card also includes Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs against Michael Caliendo, Lucia Yepez vs. Sarah Hildebrandt for the women's strawweight championship, and Jordan Oliver vs. Ridge Lovett for the lightweight title.
RAF 14 is scheduled to air live on Fox Nation at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, with select AMC theaters also showing the event.
For Tsarukyan, the incident comes at a significant point in his MMA career. The UFC lightweight contender has discussed expectations of a championship opportunity in early 2027, although no specific title fight has been officially announced. The consequences, if any, of the press conference brawl remain unclear.
The video captures how quickly a wrestling promotion's pre-event media session can become a full-scale confrontation. Whether Tsarukyan and Danis can leave the animosity behind and settle their rivalry on the mat is now one of the biggest questions heading into RAF 14.
