Shamil Erdogan Highlights: Undefeated ONE Championship Heavyweight Contender

Shamil Erdogan has built one of MMA's most unusual unbeaten records. The Dagestan-born Turkish fighter, formerly known as Shamil Akhmedov, has gone 14-0 across a career spanning the Russian regional circuit, Eagle FC and ONE Championship. A decorated freestyle wrestler who developed into a dangerous striker, Erdogan has finished all six of his ONE opponents, including former two-division champion Aung La N Sang twice.

These Shamil Erdogan highlights follow his development from early knockouts in Fight Nights Global and Eagle FC to the head kicks, body shots and ground-and-pound that have made him a contender for the vacant ONE Heavyweight MMA World Championship.

From Dagestan wrestling champion to undefeated MMA fighter

Erdogan was born on July 15, 1990, in Kizilyurt, Dagestan, and began freestyle wrestling at age 12. Competing as Shamil Akhmedov, he developed into an accomplished international wrestler, winning the 2010 Junior World Championships and the prestigious Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix in 2011.

He received Turkish citizenship in 2013 and began representing Türkiye under the surname Erdogan. His wrestling background became the foundation of his MMA game, giving him the ability to control opponents physically while developing the power to finish fights standing.

That combination is particularly evident in this highlight compilation. Erdogan is not simply a wrestler who learned to throw heavy punches. His takedowns, positional control and striking work together, allowing him to threaten opponents in several different ways.

Early knockouts and submissions in Fight Nights Global and Eagle FC

Erdogan made his professional MMA debut in December 2012 and spent his early career competing primarily in Russia. At Fight Nights Global 44 in February 2016, he stopped Maxim Mikhteev with punches at 2:45 of Round 1, one of the first knockout victories in his professional career.

His subsequent appearances for Fight Nights Global included decision victories over Evgeniy Belyaev and Vasily Babich, followed by a third-round knockout of Leonardo Silva in December 2017.

After several years away from professional MMA competition, Erdogan returned under the Eagle FC banner in 2021.

At EFC 34, he submitted Sergey Alekseevich with a rear-naked choke at 2:14 of Round 1. Seven months later, he defeated Rafael Celestino at EFC 42, forcing the Brazilian to submit to punches early in the second round.

Those wins extended his professional record to 8-0 and helped secure his move to ONE Championship.

Shamil Erdogan's ONE Championship debut against Fan Rong

Erdogan made his ONE debut against Fan Rong at ONE Friday Fights 22 in Bangkok on June 23, 2023.

Facing an experienced Chinese middleweight, Erdogan took control of the striking exchanges before landing a body kick that finished Fan Rong just 37 seconds into Round 2.

The knockout introduced a different dimension to a fighter primarily known for his wrestling. His ability to hurt opponents with kicks, not just punches or ground strikes, would become increasingly important as his competition improved.

Two finishes of Aung La N Sang establish Erdogan as a major contender

Erdogan's breakthrough came against Aung La N Sang, the former ONE middleweight and light heavyweight champion.

Their first meeting took place at ONE 168: Denver in September 2024. Erdogan used takedowns and top pressure to wear down the Myanmar veteran before finishing him with punches from mount at 2:48 of Round 2.

Five months later, they met again at ONE 171 in Qatar. This time, the finish was even more dramatic. Erdogan landed a head kick and knocked Aung La N Sang out just 28 seconds into the opening round, earning a $50,000 performance bonus.

The two victories showed different sides of his game. In Denver, Erdogan imposed his wrestling and ground-and-pound. In Qatar, he ended the fight with a single clean strike before his opponent could establish any rhythm.

From middleweight to heavyweight: Three more ONE finishes

Erdogan continued moving through ONE's weight classes in 2025. At ONE Fight Night 29 in March, he faced Brazilian veteran Gilberto Galvao at light heavyweight and finished him with a knee and follow-up punches just 41 seconds into Round 1.

In November, Erdogan made his heavyweight debut against Ryugo Takeuchi at ONE 173 in Tokyo. He put the Japanese fighter on the canvas and finished with ground-and-pound at 2:20 of the opening round, extending his professional record to 13-0.

His next assignment was considerably bigger. On October 2, 2026, Erdogan headlined ONE Fight Night 48 against British knockout artist Paul Elliott at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.

Elliott briefly troubled Erdogan with a right hand in Round 2, but the Turkish heavyweight returned to his wrestling, established control on the ground and eventually secured a rear-naked choke. The submission came at 3:29 of Round 2, giving Erdogan his 14th consecutive professional victory and another $50,000 performance bonus.

Shamil Erdogan's record and ONE Heavyweight Championship ambitions

As of October 2026, Erdogan holds a 14-0 professional MMA record with eight knockout or TKO victories, two submissions and four decisions. All six of his ONE Championship appearances have ended in stoppages, giving him a 100% finishing rate in the promotion.

His victories span three ONE weight classes: middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight. Although wrestling remains his strongest foundation, the finishing sequence includes a body-kick knockout, a head-kick knockout, several ground-and-pound stoppages and a heavyweight submission.

With former three-division ONE champion Anatoly Malykhin having retired, the ONE Heavyweight MMA World Championship remains vacant. Erdogan's victories over Takeuchi and Elliott have strengthened his claim to a title opportunity.

Erdogan has also expressed interest in facing Malykhin should the former champion return, while acknowledging his retirement. No fight between them has been officially announced.

The next stage of Erdogan's career is about translating his undefeated record into championship gold. After four decisions on the regional circuit, he has now recorded six consecutive finishes against ONE opposition, including two victories over a former double champion and a successful move to heavyweight.
