WOW FC Women’s MMA Highlights: Road to Viéitez vs. Palmqvist
Women’s MMA in WOW FC has moved quickly from individual showcase fights to a championship division of its own. This highlights collection looks back at some of the fighters and performances that built that momentum, from experienced European names to prospects making their mark inside the WOW cage.
The timing is deliberate. On September 26, Sara Viéitez and Hanna Palmqvist meet at WOW 32: Sevilla with the promotion’s first women’s championship on the line. Their strawweight title fight gives the previous women’s bouts in WOW a little more context: they were not isolated additions to cards, but part of a division gradually becoming important enough to headline a historic title fight.
Sara Viéitez’s comeback at WOW 30 Lisbon
Viéitez enters that title fight after one of the standout women’s performances in the promotion’s recent history. At WOW 30: Lisboa, she faced Brazilian prospect Eduarda Santos in a strawweight bout that turned into a serious test.
Santos had Viéitez in trouble, but the Spanish fighter survived and completely changed the fight. Viéitez rallied before stopping Santos with punches at 4:43 of the second round. The comeback earned both women Fight of the Night recognition, making them the first female fighters in WOW history to receive that bonus.
For Viéitez, it also provided the kind of performance that made a future championship opportunity easy to understand. She had shown she could recover under pressure, finish a fight late in a round and deliver when WOW expanded outside Spain for its Lisbon event.
Hanna Palmqvist’s unbeaten run
The other half of the WOW 32 title fight has taken a different route. Hanna Palmqvist remains undefeated as a professional and already owns a submission victory inside the promotion.
At WOW 21: Marbella, Palmqvist faced Jleana Valentino at strawweight. The Swedish fighter secured a rear-naked choke at 3:21 of the third round, showing the patience to keep working deep into the fight before finding the finish.
That result now carries more weight with Palmqvist booked opposite Viéitez. Their Viéitez vs. Palmqvist matchup is not simply another women’s bout on the schedule; one of them will leave Seville as the first women’s champion in WOW FC history.
Finishes and experienced names across WOW’s women’s divisions
The highlights stretch beyond the two title challengers. At WOW 28: Barcelona, Andrea Meneses García added another notable women’s finish when she submitted veteran Claire Lopez with an armbar at 4:11 of the opening round.
The same Barcelona card also featured Lara Botto against Gabriella Carbone at bantamweight. Botto stayed with the fight into the third round before finishing Carbone by rear-naked choke at 2:11.
WOW has also matched its developing roster against fighters with substantial professional experience. At WOW 26: Bilbao, Greece’s Elina Kallionidou faced Aitana Álvarez in the co-main event. Kallionidou took the unanimous decision after three rounds, adding another established name to WOW’s growing women’s lineup.
More recently, Paula Sánchez returned at WOW 31: Madrid and defeated Carbone by unanimous decision at bantamweight. Together, those fights show a women’s roster developing across strawweight, atomweight and bantamweight rather than being built around one isolated matchup.
WOW 32 crowns the promotion’s first women’s champion
That progression leads directly to Seville. Viéitez and Palmqvist are scheduled to fight for the inaugural WOW women’s strawweight championship at WOW 32, giving the division a title for the first time.
The matchup also offers a useful contrast. Viéitez arrives off the dramatic stoppage of Santos in Lisbon, while Palmqvist brings an unbeaten professional record and proven submission ability. The fighters featured throughout this compilation helped establish the women’s side of WOW FC; Viéitez and Palmqvist now get the opportunity to put a belt at the center of it.
