PFL Washington DC ceremonial weigh-ins set the stage
Watch the official ceremonial weigh-ins and final face-offs before PFL Washington DC, where undefeated tournament winner Thad Jean meets late replacement Ernesto Rodriguez for the vacant PFL Welterweight World Championship.
The main event changed dramatically during fight week, but both welterweights successfully made championship weight. Jean stepped onto the scale at 169.2 pounds, while Rodriguez registered 169.8 before the pair met for their first and only ceremonial face-off.
There was no lengthy build between them, no extended media tour and very little time to study the usual fight-week body language. The sudden change gives the Professional Fighters League title fight a different energy. Jean expected one opponent for most of his camp. Rodriguez expected a different fight entirely. Now they have five rounds to settle a matchup that barely existed a few days earlier.
Thad Jean accepts a completely different title fight
Jean was originally preparing to face Shamil Musaev, a patient and dangerous striker who had established himself among the strongest welterweights on the PFL roster. That fight disappeared when Musaev withdrew due to complications during his weight cut.
The unbeaten Jean accepted Rodriguez almost immediately. It is a difficult switch because Rodriguez brings a more wrestling-heavy style and attacks fights from different positions than Musaev. Instead of continuing to prepare for distance striking and sharp counters, Jean had to redirect his attention toward clinches, takedowns and prolonged grappling exchanges.
Jean enters the championship fight with an 11-0 professional record and a perfect run through the 2025 PFL World Tournament. He knocked out Mukhamed Berkhamov in the opening round, defeated former champion Jason Jackson in the semifinal and then went five rounds with Logan Storley to win the tournament.
Those three performances answered different questions. Jean showed his finishing power against Berkhamov, his ability to handle an experienced former champion against Jackson and his composure over championship distance against Storley. The next question is whether he can absorb a major tactical change at the last moment without losing the aggression that carried him this far.

Ernesto Rodriguez receives the biggest opportunity of his career
Rodriguez did not travel to Washington expecting to fight Jean. He was initially booked elsewhere on the card, but Musaev’s withdrawal suddenly opened a route to the PFL welterweight belt.
The Cuban enters Jean vs Rodriguez with an 11-1 record and nine consecutive victories. The short notice works both ways. Rodriguez has had almost no time to prepare specifically for Jean, yet Jean has had equally little time to understand the new opponent standing across from him.
Rodriguez’s wrestling could make the early rounds uncomfortable. Jean is a powerful athlete with quick hands, but he may have to defend repeated takedown attempts, work away from the cage and remain patient when the fight becomes less clean than expected.
For Rodriguez, there is no need to protect a ranking or carefully manage the moment. He has been handed an unexpected championship shot against an undefeated favorite. One strong night in Washington would turn him from a replacement opponent into the PFL welterweight world champion.

Tyson Pedro and Rafael Xavier collide in the co-main event
The revised main card also features Tyson Pedro vs Rafael Xavier in an important light heavyweight contest.
Pedro weighed exactly 206 pounds, with Xavier coming in at 205.2. Both are powerful, physical fighters who can end a contest without needing many clean opportunities. Pedro has competed against experienced opposition throughout his career, while Xavier can make this his biggest PFL victory with one strong performance.
With several originally announced fights no longer on the final lineup, Pedro vs Xavier now carries co-main event status. That gives the light heavyweights a larger stage and places them directly beneath a world title fight on the Washington card.
Rasul Magomedov faces Sullivan Cauley in an unbeaten test
Undefeated Rasul Magomedov meets one of the division’s most established young finishers in Rasul Magomedov vs Sullivan Cauley.
Magomedov arrives at 9-0 and has steadily moved from prospect status toward the PFL light heavyweight rankings. Cauley has more experience under the PFL spotlight and carries the kind of power that can punish a small defensive mistake.
The ceremonial face-off is worth watching closely because there is little separating them physically. Cauley weighed 205.8 pounds and Magomedov came in at 205.6, leaving the matchup to be decided by timing, control and which fighter handles the first difficult exchange better.
Eliezer Kubanza continues his climb against Chris Mixan
Eliezer Kubanza returns in Kubanza vs Mixan, with both welterweights weighing exactly 171 pounds.
Kubanza has become one of the more intriguing developing fighters on the PFL roster. His physical strength and willingness to pressure opponents make him difficult to settle against, but Mixan has enough experience to test whether that aggression remains effective over a full three rounds.
This fight also matters within the wider welterweight picture. Jean and Rodriguez will crown a champion later in the night, while Kubanza and Mixan have the chance to position themselves for a much larger assignment in the division.
Bryce Meredith and Nkosi Ndebele feature on the prelims
The preliminary card includes standout wrestler Bryce Meredith against Michael Cyr. Meredith vs Cyr will take place at a 140-pound catchweight after both men made the agreed limit.
Meredith’s wrestling remains his clearest advantage, but Cyr enters with the better professional record and the chance to disrupt another highly regarded PFL prospect.
Former BRAVE CF bantamweight champion Nkosi Ndebele also appears at 140 pounds. His fight with Brandon Davis brings together two experienced bantamweights in Ndebele vs Davis, with both hitting 140.6 at the official weigh-in.
The PFL schedule moves directly from Washington to New York
There is little pause after the Washington title fight. The promotion returns six days later for PFL New York at UBS Arena.
The New York main event features the undefeated Usman Nurmagomedov vs Archie Colgan lightweight championship fight. The co-main event brings Dakota Ditcheva back against former kickboxing world champion Denise Kielholtz in Ditcheva vs Kielholtz.
The card also includes the lightweight matchup Amru Magomedov vs Angel Alvarez and a major light heavyweight contest between two ranked names in Dovlet Yagshimuradov vs Simeon Powell.
First comes Washington, where a main event built over months was replaced in a matter of hours. Jean still has the same belt in front of him, but the route toward it has changed. Rodriguez has arrived with almost no warning and nothing to lose. Their final face-off is brief; the championship fight may be anything but.
