Brad Tavares Re-Signs With UFC to Break Michael Bisping’s Middleweight Wins Record

2 May 2025

Veteran middleweight Brad Tavares isn’t done just yet. After briefly being removed from the UFC roster, the Hawaiian has officially re-signed with the promotion—aiming to break the record he currently shares with Michael Bisping for most wins in UFC middleweight history.

Tavares (21-10) revealed on the “Still Friends Show” podcast that his contract had expired following his last win over Gerald Meerschaert. Despite fans spotting his name missing from UFC’s active fighter list, he confirmed that the removal was simply part of the transition as he signed a new deal.

“It’s funny, as soon as my contract expired, I saw I was off the roster instantly,” Tavares said. “But it was all part of the negotiation process. I’m now signed again and ready to chase that record.”

The 36-year-old, who made his UFC debut back in 2010, now sits tied with Bisping at 19 wins in the middleweight division. With a new contract in hand, Tavares has his sights firmly set on becoming the lone leader in that category.

“If I had lost my last fight, there’s a chance I wouldn’t be here,” he added. “But that’s how this business works. You fight out your deal, you perform, and you earn another shot.”

Tavares has alternated wins and losses over his past seven appearances, but remains a consistent and well-respected presence in the 185-pound ranks. With the path now cleared, his next bout could potentially see him etch his name alone in the UFC record books.
