Reece McLaren vs Yamato Fujita Full Fight | UAE Warriors 65
Reece McLaren vs Yamato Fujita at UAE Warriors 65
Reece McLaren made an immediate impact in his UAE Warriors debut, earning a unanimous-decision victory over Yamato Fujita at UAE Warriors 65 in Al Ain.
This Full Fight Friday release brings back all three rounds of a technical flyweight matchup between two experienced international fighters. McLaren entered with years of high-level competition behind him, while Fujita already knew the UAE Warriors cage well after building one of the stronger promotional records in the division.
The result went McLaren’s way on all three judges’ scorecards, but the fight was more competitive than a simple decision result suggests. Both men had to work through changing positions, difficult scrambles and long stretches where neither could afford to relax.
McLaren brings his experience to UAE Warriors
McLaren arrived in the promotion as one of the most experienced fighters on the UAE Warriors 65 card. The Australian veteran has spent much of his career facing established bantamweights and flyweights, developing a style based around pressure, grappling and the ability to stay effective when a fight becomes physical.
Against Fujita, he showed why that experience still matters. Rather than chasing an early finish or forcing low-percentage attacks, McLaren stayed composed across the full 15 minutes. He kept the fight moving in the direction he wanted and did enough in each round to leave little doubt with the judges.
The win also proved that McLaren could adjust quickly to a new promotion and unfamiliar opponent. Promotional debuts can create strange pressure, especially for a recognised veteran expected to win immediately. McLaren handled that expectation and left Al Ain with a clear first victory under the UAE Warriors banner.
Yamato Fujita remains a difficult flyweight matchup
Fujita entered the fight as much more than a convenient opponent for McLaren’s debut. The Japanese flyweight had already produced several strong performances for UAE Warriors, including knockout and submission victories against international competition.
His game is difficult to read because he can move between striking and grappling without needing a long setup. Fujita is comfortable attacking during transitions, forcing scrambles and making opponents work even when he is not controlling the position.
That made McLaren’s task more complicated. He could not simply rely on reputation or assume the cleaner moments would come easily. Fujita remained active throughout the fight and continued searching for ways to change the momentum until the final bell.
The unanimous decision added another loss to Fujita’s record, but it did not turn the bout into a one-sided performance. He again showed the durability and variety that have kept him relevant across the Asian and Middle Eastern MMA scenes.
McLaren earns a UAE Warriors title opportunity
The victory over Fujita has now led McLaren toward a much larger assignment. He is scheduled to challenge undefeated champion Asaf Chopurov in the Asaf Chopurov vs Reece McLaren main event at UAE Warriors 72.
Chopurov enters as a young champion with a perfect professional record and a long list of stoppage victories. McLaren brings the experience advantage, deeper championship-round background and the grappling skill needed to test a fighter who has rarely been forced into extended adversity.
The Fujita fight now looks like an important first step in that title run. McLaren proved he could win a controlled three-round fight inside the UAE Warriors cage. Against Chopurov, he may need to maintain that same discipline for five rounds while dealing with a younger opponent carrying far more finishing danger.
Fujita’s planned Shooto return changes late
Fujita had been announced for a return to Shooto against Marwin de Tomas Quirante at Lemino Shooto 7.
The originally booked Fujita vs Quirante matchup was later removed after a reported injury forced Fujita out of the event. That delays his opportunity to respond to the McLaren defeat and leaves his next appearance uncertain.
For now, the UAE Warriors 65 full fight remains a useful look at two fighters moving in different directions. McLaren used the victory to secure a championship opportunity in Abu Dhabi. Fujita must recover, reset and wait for the next date on his schedule.
